"Harm's Way" Scores a Win!

William Smith
Harm's Way, J/92 #22

After a long string of seconds, thirds and below, we finally got into the win column yesterday against a strong fleet of generally well sailed boats. Winds were ca. ten kts. The secret was a new Shore 155% genoa, and more particularly a complete new bottom on the boat. My guy took all paint off everywhere, wet sanded and polished the bottom. The boat is kept on a Hydro-Hoist, so it only requires paint on the keel and rudder. He put five coats of VC-17 there and the 3-M teflon (don't know the name) on the bottom. The combination produced a perceptible increase in boat speed. Our PHRF number at the Fort Worth Boat Club is 102. Our competators are a Melges 24, J/35, J/80, J/105 and a Hobie 33.
